A NIGHT AT THE OSCARS
»And the Oscar goes to…« This year »Hollywood in Vienna« will be setting out on a glamorous journey through eight decades of film music; the red carpet will be rolled out for some of the great Oscar-winning films & compositions, performed by the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna and conducted by Boston Pops music director Keith Lockhart in one of the most beautiful concert halls in the world.
Following a sparkling opening with Hooray for Hollywood, our program includes legendary songs from The Wizard of Oz, alongside orchestral music from cult films such as Casablanca, Jaws, Out of Africa, Schindler’s List, as well as recent Oscar-winners, such as Shape of Water and Black Panther, adding up to an unforgettable concert experience in a festive setting reflecting the magic of Hollywood.
A TRIBUTE TO GABRIEL YARED
This year's Guest of Honour at »Hollywood in Vienna« belongs to the illustrious group of Oscar-winning composer: Gabriel Yared. In 1997, he won the Academy Award for his impressive score for Anthony Minghella’s Drama, The English Patient. The film received 12 nominations and won 9 Oscars, making it one of the most successful Oscar-winners of all time.
Gabriel Yared, with whom we will celebrate his 70th birthday, is a many-faceted artist and his elegant, sensual musical style has made him one of the most outstanding film composers in the world. His greatest successes, besides The English Patient include French Classics such as Betty Blue and The Lover, as well as major Hollywood films such as the Nicholas Cage movie City of Angels, The Talented Mr. Ripley with Matt Damon, Cold Mountain with Jude Law and Nicole Kidman and Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck’s German Oscar-Drama, The Lives of Others. Gabriel Yared will treat the Viennese audience to one of his rare public performances on the piano, together with the RSO Orchestra Vienna.
