Walter Jurmann, whose career started in Vienna with many hit-songs of the 1930s, such as Veronika, der Lenz ist da, was later engaged by MGM, where he contributed more than 100 songs to over 50 movie productions.

He is especially known for his famous title song of the movie San Francisco. In 1984, the song was then chosen to be the official hymn of the city.
