Yared
Gabriel Yared initially started studying law but stopped his studies at the age of 20 to become a professional music composer.
He then worked as a composer, orchestrator and producer for singers like Françoise Hardy, Charles Aznavour, Gilbert Bécaud and Mireille Mathieu.
In 1980 Yared made his film debut with the score for Jean-Luc Godard's Every Man for Himself (1980). Since then, he has scored 100 movies for major directors like Jean-Jacques Beineix, Robert Altman and Jean-Jacques Annaud.
He has won an Academy Award, Golden Globe and Grammy for Anthony Minghella's The Englisch Patient (1996) score and has been nominated for two further Academy Awards (The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) and Cold Moutain (2003)).
Gabriel Yared has recently finished scoring Xavier Dolan's upcoming film, The Death and Life of John F. Donovan, The Happy Prince, directed by Rupert Everett and Judy, a Judy Garland biopic starring Renée Zellweger and directed by Rupert Gould.
He also composes ballet music and has created the music for works such as Clavigo for The Paris Opera, and Wayne McGregor's Raven Girl for the Royal Opera Ballet. Furthermore, he is the founder and director of the Pléiade Academy, which supports talented young composers in the production and promotion of their works.
