Lebo M & Refi Sings
For his touching and striking music the South African Lebo M was nominated for the Tony, for the Ivor Novello Award in UK and two-times winning the SAMA award and is mainly recognised for his work as an arranger, co-producer and performer on Disney’s smash feature film and Broadway musical sensation, THE LION KING. The award-winning hit musical ranks as one of the top most successful and longest running Broadway productions, seen by over 85 million audiences around the world. His credits also include feature films including DINOSAUR, BACK ON THE BLOCK, THE LIFE OF QUINCY JONES, CONGO, LONG NIGHT’S JOURNEY INTO DAY, BLENDED, TEARS OF THE SUN and 2016’ THE LEGEND OF TARZAN.
As a businessman, Lebo M realised a dream by co-producing the musical of The Lion King in South Africa in 2007, which shattered all theatre records and was seen by 550 000 people in South Africa in a limited short run.
In 2009 Lebo M composed music for and produced the opening and closing ceremonies of the FIFA Confederations Cup where also Refi Sings performed a couple of her own songs. This was followed, in 2010 when Lebo M was composer and co-executive producer of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in its first tournament in Africa in history.
This year also holds historical significance as Lebo M celebrates the 20th anniversary of the biggest and most successful Broadway production in history, The Lion King, making us the only South African/African content producers in history to break global records. This is another occasion for Lebo M and Refi Sings to perform together. Alongside to these important performances with her father, Refi Sings has already made her own steps, having collaborations and projects together with artists like Brian Soko, Dr. Dre, John Connor, Focus, Judith Hill, Trevor Jackson, Akon and Bra Hugh Masekala (with whom she performed at the 2013’s Grammy Award Show).
