James Shearman is widely recognized as a premier conductor and orchestrator who has contributed to nearly 80 film scores, from the critically acclaimed & Academy Award winning Manchester By The Sea, Gosford Park and Shakespeare in Love, to British and Hollywood blockbusters such as Disney’s Beauty And The Beast (2017), Disney’s Cinderella (2016), Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, Marvel’s Thor, Sony’s 2017 summer release The Emoji Movie and the fourth-coming Murder On The Orient Express for 20th Century Fox.
James Shearman studied composition and conducting at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Upon graduation from the Academy James entered the film music business orchestrating and/or conducting for many of Hollywood’s Academy Award winning and/or nominated composers including, Elliot Goldenthal, Mark Isham, Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, Alan Menken, John Powell, Hans Zimmer and Patrick Doyle, with whom he has a particularly successful & long-standing collaboration.
As a conductor Mr. Shearman has performed with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia (with whom he made his Royal Festival Hall début in 2014), the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, Czech National Symphony Orchestra, Hollywood Studio Symphony, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the City of Prague Philharmonic and the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra. He is increasingly active in the concert hall, recently conducting a series of concerts with the music of Patrick Doyle (»Shakespeare in Concert«) in Europe and in the US under the composer’s attendance.
In 2015 Mr. Shearman was made a »Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music«, an honour awarded to past students for »Distinguishing themselves in the music profession«.
