The graduate Germanist and Romanist first came into contact with journalism at a very early age when she contributed to the legendary “Music Box” on Austrian state radio ORF while she was still at school. She was, among many other positions, the host of “Club 2”, as well as the moderator of Ö1 series “Von Tag zu Tag”, the TV format “Treffpunkt Kultur”, and the cultural news section of “Zeit im Bild”. She was the first female presenter in the history of the “New Year’s Concert”. For many years she has been presenting the “Vienna Opera Ball” and all major ORF opera broadcasts from the Vienna State Opera, the Salzburg Festival, and many other festivals. In the first season of “Dancing Stars” she surprised the audience with her rumba, foxtrot, and chachacha skills and reached third place. Ever since the launch of the topical TV station “ORF III Culture and Information” in 2011, Barbara Rett has been the host of “Erlebnis Bühne”, a Sunday primetime show focusing on operas, concerts, and documentaries.
